wassup with this web 2.0?

well, plenty! its kinda crazy...

lots of things evolving around us, as usual... some clever marketing dude/dudette gave it a name - again, business as usual, creating a buzz... so we have Web 2.0...

Some really cool players in this space (other than the million other wanna-be Web 2.0ers - btw, the list below is by no means comprehensive, its just some companies that are familiar to me) are:
- Zimbra
- iUpload
- Jotspot
- SocialText
- Meebo

Its very interesting that this came up in my radar recently. Just the other day, a few of my friends at work (Rearden Commerce - another Web 2.0 company, ofcourse!) were discussing how the Wikis, Blogs, Corporate Intranet/Portals would all "converge" or would "need to" converge... And here it is, a few other folks thought the same (albeit a bit earlier than we did;))

iUpload, JotSpot, SocialText are just a few companies trying to bring together a host of different online publishing/web content management software under one banner. These folks claim to combine blogs, wikis, corporate intranet/internet, web document management and everything under the sun into one meaningful web...

Zimbra

• Magic web, at ur finger tips
• Hype is that its gonna kick M$ Outlook's back
• Reality probably is that some big company would eat them up for breakfast and mess it up all the same

iUpload

• Now, these fellows (iUpload) claim to do all of it - would be interesting to see what they can actually do today
• Again, some big freaking company is gonna eat them up (remember Documentum - EMC?)

JotSpot

• Not the same breadth or vision as iUpload
• But, I guess it falls in the same realm

Meebo

• What the heck is Meebo? Well, if you can get used to eBay, Google, Yahoo, why not meebo?
• Do you want to Meebo me? no? U gonna bo-mee later? Yikes!
• Anyways, another one of the online IM/blog companies

Oh, yeah, if you are wondering where I find these companies, well, that aint my little secret... I read a lot of articles on Red Herring, Business 2.0 and other mags... Also, follow a few analyst companies when I get some time - Gartner, Forrester, IDC Research, Yankee Group etc...
